Honeymoon - Cozumel, Mexico

For us, Cozumel was all about our resort. It was incredible. Modern design, amazing service, incredible food, private rooftop pool, snorkeling, all you can eat and drink, and best of all it was empty. We spent most of our time in our pool gazing at the ocean and drinking rum. We relaxed which is what we needed after a year of planning our wedding and the wedding itself. It wasn't a yellow-brick road though, there was some drama.

Our bags were lost for the first 3 days and we had to buy cheesy tourist clothes to make it. All we needed were swimsuits and a toothbrush and Continental payed for it. (Worst flight ever) When we checked in, they were not expecting me and the reservation was only for one person. (honeymoon, hello?) They tried to stick us with the balance per night for two instead of one ($$$) and somehow we got them to drop the balance entirely. What? Sarah works for the company, we were truly shocked, we were honeymooners, the hotel was empty, I guess they needed our money. Scary as hell, but it wall worked out. Then, we had to swap rooms because our roof had a leaking AC. Not a problem, we got a better view next door. Later in the week we visited the ruins of San Gervasio and got into a nationality fight with some Middle Easterners who didn't like us telling them they couldn't climb on the roped-off ruins for photos. That got ugly really fast.

The weather was hot and then rainy, but always warm. We got burned pretty bad the first few days waiting for our bags to show up with our SPF 45. We snorkeled and read books when were not swimming on our roof or one of the two infinity edge community pools. We drove ATV's in the muddy jungle to see some "ruins" that were more like "caves." Our resorts food was really good, some of the best soups (weird, right) we have ever had. The island itself wasn't anything special. We had St. Marrten in our minds, and visually this was nothing like it. The public beaches were dirty and covered with garbage. I guess beach clubs are they way to go, but why when you have what we had at our resort, right?

The best part was being there with my bride. It really was a magical time and emotion was high especially being there the day after our wedding.
