Down Under Update-014

Sarah had some business to take care of in New South Wales and I tagged along for the road trip. Four hours down the road we landed at Coff's Harbour on Valentines Day. One thing about Australia is that little towns shut down very early so we scrambled to find some food around 8pm. (especially being Valentines) We landed on a grocery store and settled on making tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. (Rico Swave, son!) The next day Sarah did her thing and I explored the beach area with my camera. This little beach was secluded and felt like my own. Some pretty great sites along the way, I managed to make some pretty decent snaps in the blistering heat. I met up with S in the late afternoon and got delayed a few extra hours because of a possible sale she had to wait on. The story goes, a family was interested in buying a big timeshare package and when it came to sign they asked if they could be along and ask God what he thought. The sale staff left them alone and they had a prayer. The big package was denied and the next level package was then proposed and again, they had to have another chat with God. God didn't like that package either but he did allow them to buy into a trial package. God isn't into timeshare, but I bet he could use it. We finally met and had lunch at the park next to the ocean and then a 6ft lizard walks on by next to us. Just a mellow stroll, no big deal, looking for bugs...we are eating sandwiches.

We load up the Ford Focus and head to the Port Macquarie a couple more hours down the road. At one point in the drive we had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a Kangaroo in the road. This guy didn't really understand he needed to jump off the road and just hopped down with us. We were laughing our asses off traveling with the guy until he finally figured it out and jumped off.

The resort at Flynn's was not up to parr for us but the location to the beaches was prime. Again, Sarah went to work and I went to the beach with my camera and had a hell of a time. There are 3 different beaches next to each other on 3 bays separated by landscape. Each climb between the bays revelaed a different looking beach. I walked all 3 and took way too many snaps and even climbed this lookout to see an arial view of it all. I really enjoyed this place, the beaches felt like Oregon full of rocks and rough shore lines. I ended the day with a swim at Flynn's beach and met up with Sarah for dinner. We were told to go to this mexican place around the corner and it turned out to be really incredible. We have been skunked with Mexican way too many times in this country and couldn't believe what we found at this place. It was spicy, fresh, creative, and just damn good. We ate ourselves sick and loved every minute of it. The next day we did pretty much the same thing and had a BBQ at Flynn's for dinner. Every beach or park in has an outdoor gas grill, bbq is life here. We grilled up some sausages and eggplant while the sun set to a golden glow. We watched the ocean dance on the shore as it turned from silver to amber to purple. A very memorable evening to conclude our journey. The 7 hour drive back home wasn't too bad, and we got Sarah to her office for an afternoon meeting just a couple minutes late.

We extended our car rental one extra day and finally got a proper hike in at Lammington National Park. Most hikes are about an hour or huge multiple day trails, so this 5 hour one was just perfect and ended up being the most beautiful one yet. Someone should also fire the trail description copywriter, this track we went had 5 waterfalls on it and non of them were mentioned. We are talking about some serious Aussie beauty here..
