Bonobo Live: 07.22.09

Back at my first "real" job, I had a coworker that introduced me to Bonobo after we both went to a Ninja Tune show at the Showbox. He got their earlier than me and caught his dj set and found some albums the next day. One day, The Live Sessions EP was played in the office and since then I probably have played that album 100 times, easy. I always fantasized about being in that crowd listening to these studio productions interpreted live with a band, last night I got my chance. Man, I have been waiting 6 years for this!

Wow, it was worth the wait. They said this was their first US live show which was an added bonus to the experience. They played all the cuts and it really did feel like I was at the recording of Live Sessions EP. The sound was thick and very well rehearsed. The vocalist was amazing live and their drummer was insane. Bonobo picked a great band to create his productions, they were so damn good. They never stopped, it was one of those jammy sets that melded each track into the next which I find very important in a live show. The crowd was packed which was very surprising. (people know Bonobo?) The band was very impressed with the size of the crowd and the energy that was flowing in Neumos. At times, I couldn't help think of my younger years of loving Dave Mathews. It was probably the live Soprano Sax and the big drums. A strange comparison, but it was there. Man, amazing show.
