Sarah, Skye, Erik and I went to check out Wax's live set and were pretty impressed. I first heard Que Sera on KEXP a few years ago and learned about this French sample-monster. Erik actually gave me a couple of his albums to try out so he kinda got me deeper into this producer's style. It isn't anything I haven't heard before, but his choice in instruments really put him on the map. The flutist and electronic chello were constantly playing to whatever Wax was pulling out. I have never seen a bass flute, amazing. The female vocalist was incredible live, I always thought she was synthed-out, but no that is her voice! When she was out there, it was a real Portishead sounding moment, very nice. An MC also came out to rock the higher energy tracks, he had great stage presence and delivery. It was an awesome mix of melodic hip hop to floor-rocking hip hop. I love this moment of producers doing live shows instead of mixes. Sure, he is using Serato still but there is so much more depth with some real instruments.
