The last day of Stevens Pass is a strange one. You are stoked for the day to relax and mess around but it is also depressing as hell because it is over. This year the mountain events were very different. Someone sabotaged the pond skim by poking holes in the plastic overnight, they ran out of food for the big BBQ, and only two restaurants were open to feed thousands of people. I can't believe somebody would ruin the pond skim, what is the point? Thousands of dollars lost for charity, thousands of sad faces on the hill.
The crew still managed to have a good time regardless. It was over 60 on the mountain and we were just in shirts. The snow was fun and fast in the morning. We started on the backside for the usual power line run, and headed to the front around noon. The park wasn't that great but we played a bit in there. I think Big Chief was again, the run of the day alongside our last run off of Hogsback with Erik and Jenn. I was lugging my camera around, so I wasn't at full operation.
I hate that it is over but we managed to still have another fine season. Mother nature was on a Monday-Wednesday schedule and gave us some big powder and strange times. I learned my new board, how to ride boxes, made progress on butters, built confidence, rode steeps, rode huge powder runs, and overall feel better about my abilities. Sucks to stop right when you are on the peak of your game, but that is how it goes every year. So long 09/10, you were a weird one.
