Shred Day 13 - 10/11 Season

02.22.11

Night shred session! The reports said heavy snow was coming, and the crew decided to go get it on a Tuesday night! We went to Snoqualmie West after work for a 40.00 night ticket of fun. Why don't we do this more often? We will have to change that next season for sure! There was TONS of snow up there, almost too much. I guess they close parts of the mountain in the early week and then open them in the middle of the week to help build the bases. Not a lot of people know about this, but when they open up it is like early morning first chair at night! Pat showed us the ropes, and the hill really did deliver. Huge powder pillows, untouched fields, big launches - crazy fun. I did manage to rip my brand new AK jacket on a tree stump which I am extremely angry about. I did a crappy spin off of a heavily covered spine and didn't get my board around very well and ended up landing on a broken tree stump that was covered in snow. The stump had jagged edges on the top where it was cut off and those edges stabbed my chest (thank you camera for the block) and it must have snagged my zipper. The zipper was gutter from my jacket like cleaning a Trout. So mad. I sent the jacket back to Burton and they should take care of me, but I am sure stock is low for replacement and I am not going to get the same jacket back. Better a jacket then stitches on my chest I guess.

The drive up and down was gnarly. The freeway was packed with 6 or so inches of snow and very choppy from the big rig's chains. The Avant did well, but I sure wish I had some winter tires!
