Shred Day 14 - 10/11 Season

2.27.10 - Blackcomb

For the last 6 years, Sarah and I have gone to Whistler for a visit and have never received the "epic Whistler Pow" we hear stories of. I guess this was our year, HOLLY SHIT! Good timing too, Sarah has been learning how to ski pow this season. On Sunday, we decided to devote the whole day to Blackcomb because we always end up doing that hill last when we are tired from Whistler. We did end up taking a few first lines on Whistler to warm up in an area we have never been on. Pow! Our luck on this trip was on point. Seventh Heaven was closed the whole morning for high winds until we got on the Gondola and it opened up for us. It was gnarly up there on the very top! White-out with HEAVY winds made it very hard to traverse to the drop-in of Seventh. At one point, I couldn't control my heart rate. I don't know if it was the 7500 feet elevation, the cold, anticipation, the wind - it was scary and very weird. We took 3 runs on Seventh on 5" of fresh over hard pack. It was really killer riding, but just a few more inches would have made those deep turns that much better. This was an important run for Sarah because "she got it" and learned the ways of powder riding for long periods of time. She was all smiles. It was a killer day of powder of exploration for both of us. I wore the lady out, and we called it around 1:00 and ran in for a pint. Oh, Canada!
