We have picked our camping spots this year based on the highest ratings in our camping book. Deception Pass topped the charts, so we went to check it out. Is it the prettiest? Is it the most entertaining? I would agree that it was very high in my personal camping history but I don't think it is my chart-topper.
The best part of DP is it's proximity to Seattle. Being under 3 hours, you can bounce after work, battle traffic, and still setup your tent with daylight to cook dinner. Our spot was pretty large and fairly interesting. We had trees and growth all around us, it was no Ohanapecosh but it wasn't a flat wasteland of tent pads either. The campground is situated on saltwater shoreline next to freshwater shoreline which create a very challenging waterway for boats. There is also tons of old growth forrest with great hiking trails.
We did our usual hiking tours around the area and cooked up heavy meals at night. Crossing the bridge was very cool, the views are amazing from there. We went to both beaches and watched tons of fisherman attempt to hook some humpys on one side and on the other there were tons of families enjoying the narrow sanded beach. There is a ton of entertainment in this area, I can see us spending a few more days exploring the trails or renting a kayak. Really amazing spot, makes you proud to live in such a wonderful state.
