Sailing in Pt. Townsand

08.27.11
Lee received a sailing adventure for Christmas in Port Townsand and he invited us and Lola to come along. Lee is a huge sailing nerd, so this was a very big thing for him. It was awesome to see him so happy on the boat, I hope he buys one one day.

Port Townsand is awesome. I love visiting that place. The boat was built in 93, but used 16th century rigging technology. I have always been curious about sailing and how it worked, it was fascinating to watch the captain and his first mate pull and tie down ropes all around the boat to get those massive sails at the right angle. The feeling of sailing by wind is so smooth and relaxing, I get it now. That boat would just cut through the water like a knife, no rocking, so swaying. It was also great to feel keeling for the first time. Tons of water flowed on the deck as we were dragging guar rail in the water at certain points of the sail. Lola was very confused by it and tried to bite the on-flowing water, hilarious stuff. She was great on the boat loving the the sea breeze in her hair with her spaced-out glance into the sky. We drank from growlers filled at Pt. Townsand Brewing and shared some time Erik and Rowan who now live in Townsand. Best day trip of the summer.
