I spent a day in Coolanggatta and Tweed Heads after I dropped Sarah off at one of her resorts in the area. The day was amazing and it was just me and my camera. I can get very lost in my camera seeing life through a different perspective. It is very relaxing to me and makes me dig deeper into what I am seeing. So, the water at Coolingata was amazing and I couldn't stop taking photos of it. I ended up on a rocky levy and found myself at the end which gave a really interesting view of the beach - almost as if I was floating on the water. I got a some great shots of passing waves with my 50mm which was a treat to see the formation from that perspective. There was a man fishing and I stopped him for a chat. His name was Jeff and he was from Sydney. We talked for awhile about fishing and life in Australia and what to see and do. It was nice to finally talk to someone and soak in some culture, Sarah get's is around it everyday at her job. His wife later joined and we talked about Sydney. I then checked out the town and landed in an antique shop that was very expensive. They had very cool automemorbilia and examples of design I would want to take home with me. I accidentally knocked over a hand painted tile which cracked and decided to bust my ass out of there after hiding the damage during a quick chat with the shop owner. After another scenic point and a few frames later I found myself at a pub with a Toothy's Old and Hunger Games to read with a ocean view. It was a proper day.
Lammington National Park is another destination for bushwalks and rainforest tranquility. They don't have a winery which means we actually got some quality trail time in. We did 2 hikes with views of Morans Falls and Morans Creek gorge. The falls was the largest one I have seen and the hike put you above it. I wanted to grab a wine barrel and take a run down it, but Sarah wasn't into it. We kicked up another Kangaroo and got to see him hop along, strange little buggers. We also heard a Taradactile. I am not kidding, it was the most amazing squawk - it stopped us dead in confusion. The sounds in the rainforest are straight out of the Earth series on Discovery. The trees are very funny and are very creative growers making knots and webs out of themselves.
We are also experiencing what is known as Schoolies in Surfers Paradise. High School grads from different states come to Surfers to celebrate for a week. The city endorses it and put on outdoor concerts, activities, retail discounts, patrol and shut down streets, full support. There was over 150 arrests, a couple deaths, drug busts, and plenty of annoying rookie drunks all over our city and home. The first week was 17 year olds and the next 2 weeks are 18 year olds. The opening week there was a big prom dance to kick off the festivities. They have a cool tradition of using hot rods instead of Limo's so the streets were lined with killer cars for a couple days. Drivers pull up to the location where the kids get greeted to photographers and a red carpet with a crowd of people watching and hooting. It is very cool, but seems like a sign of success and money - oh, High School.
