Down Under Update-006

We took our first bus ride down the highway 40 minutes to a place called Currumbin. We were told they had Koala's and Kangaroos but we had no idea what the experience was going to be. Expecting the worst and cheesiest of cheese, we ponied up the 80 bucks and had a mind blowing experience. We first saw Tasmanian Devils and Dingos. Those Dingos played with their trainer like a regular dog, very happy fellas but you can't help think that they could snap at any point. It was a very cool zoo with a steam powered mini train that takes you to different sections of the park. We landed at the Koala's where they were perched in the trees eating eucalyptus and sleeping. They are fuzzy and funny little guys, I think I left a little of my heart there with them. They sleep 20 hours of the day because the eucalyptus they eat have zero Energy. We turned around to another section where a beautiful Peacock was showing off. I was so happy to witness this, I have always wanted to take pictures of one of these birds, beauty beyond words. We checked out a bunch of other birds (boring) and take a break before seeing the Roo's. There was a gate entrance to the Kangaroo section that a giant Emu bird guarded before we could enter. No joke. I spotted a few people feeding the Roo's but what I next noticed was people hugging these creatures and taking photos with them. They were running wild with the people with zero rules. I couldn't believe it, there is no way this would happen in the US. People were spooning these guys for photos! There were hundreds running around! It took a few minutes for us to get comfy, but once you start giving one love another will come right up for his turn. They are exactly like dogs and show zero fear of humans. At one point, Sarah was scratching the chin of one and he turned his head to the side with great pleasure just like a dog. We were in shock the whole time, we had no idea this is how we were going to experience Kangaroos. There were multiple moms with Joey's in their pouches and we watched one little guy jump out to then get scared by a Pigeon and jump back in. This place was amazing and pretty much the only spot to see these animals because of the interaction you experience.

If you hit Brisbane, check out Lone Pine Koala sanctuary. You can also hold and hand feed the koalas there as well as hang out with the wallabies/roos/emus. That, and check out Anne Street at night!
